Appointments

Urgent appointments

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday):

  • phone us on 01159 254 566, Monday to Friday from 8am – 6.30pm
  • visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 7am – 6.30pm (07:00-08:00 subject to staff availability)

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

If your problem is urgent then we expect you to come in at the time requested – do not go to school or work!

Due to an increased demand for patients to be seen as emergencies, the Doctors have made the decision to advice reception to ask patients the reason why patients would like to be seen. This is so that reception can signpost you to the most appropriate clinician and deal with your query in the most appropriate way.

Chaperones

A chaperone is a member of staff, appropriately trained, whose role is to independently observe the examination/procedure undertaken by the doctor/health professional to assist the appropriate doctor-patient relationship.

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking appointment so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed in any way.

Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with recommendations from our regulated bodies (GMC).

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

You can be visited at home, usually after morning surgery has finished. Please telephone as early as possible after we open at 08:00 and expect to answer a few questions about your problem for us to decide whether a visit is the best way of dealing with your problem and to assess its urgency.

You are expected to get to surgery unless you are too ill to travel. Lack of transport is not a reason for us to visit you.
